So sad and disappointed

For years, every Tuesday I get up and go to our local Blockbuster store to rent movies. Tuesday is the day the new releases come out. I have been doing that for at least 10 years now. It's my Tuesday tradition.

I have always said if you want to stalk me, hunt me down and murder me, there is one thing you can know for sure... You can find me at Blockbuster Tuesday mornings between 10am and noon.

I went into Blockbuster the other day and the clerk told me their last rental day is going to be January 5th. They are closing down. Going out of business.

Whenever I have posted on Twitter that I went to Blockbuster and rented some movies, there is always someone who will tweet back and say something like I can't believe you even still have a Blockbuster store because all of ours have gone out of business a long time ago.

SO I have always had it in the back of my mind that at any time our store could go out of business. But now that it is real, it makes me sad and disappointed.

Now I will only have the local Redbox kiosks to go to on Tuesday mornings for new movies.

I still have Blockbuster by mail where they mail you out movies and you watch them and mail them back in. I have that program and get 3 movies at a time and it only costs $19 a month. I will probably keep that service unless they end up going out of business with that too.

DO you have Blockbuster stores in your area? Are they still open or did they go out of business?

  1. We have only 1 brick & mortar store left in the Brandon Fl area, and I think it's slated to be shut down in 2013. We mostly get our movies from RedBox or Blockbuster by mail as well. I do have to say, I have enjoyed getting movies on the XBox. They stream to the console so then that is another option as well. The old tradition of getting to the video store & renting a new flick is going the way of the dinosaur, I'm afraid.

  3. In north Austin, I have seen ONE brick & mortar Blockbuster, and it's by my BIL's apartment. I don't know about the rest of Austin, though. This place is crazy crowded with people and buildings, so I could have missed one.
